Response to Review of Primary and Secondary Approaches to the Literary Past: A Book Review Essay

I like the way the review shifts at the end to considering how students should approach scholarship in the present day; this is a critical issue particularly now that funding issues make it harder for them to explore somewhat before just getting at the production of a thesis. Anything that encourages them to broaden their scope and think about new or different methods of approach is good as far as I am concerned. I'm delighted the reviewer makes that turn, though I suspect it was implicit in our collection and perhaps more explicit in the Gurd volume.
