Response to Review of World Population Policies: Their Origin, Evolution, and Impact

I concur with this thoughtful review. As I was first trained as an historian before becoming a demographer, I particularly appreciate that Dr. Carol Blum linked current population policy challenges to the intellectual debate of past centuries. The review also highlights the weight of ideologies, political and/or religious, when it comes to formulate and implement population policies. Last but not least, Dr. Blum also stresses correctly the gap between policy assessment, on the one hand, and actual action on the ground, or lack thereof, on the other. Undoubtedly, the insights offered in this review will enhance my future work in the area of population policies.
