An excellent review. Midgley accurately hones in on perhaps the one weakness in this otherwise commanding work. That of nationalism v. Communism in Ho's world view. I've thought about this for many years and still cannot find the right answer. The nearest analogy I can draw is that the two themes are like stands in a rope - bound together they create strength and alone tell you nothing.
